Our walk is a personal walk, and we don’t compare it with the walk of others. We cannot focus on the way others follow the Lord or compare our lives to theirs. What we might assume based on what we see, can lead to the wrong conclusion, build resentment and take our eyes off the Lord.
When Peter saw John, he said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.” We follow the path the Lord has for us, without being concerned about what the Lord is doing in the lives of others. We could even assume the path of others is easier, or harder, than ours. The truth is we have not walked in other people’s shoes and cannot fully understand their journey.
Knowing what others go through now or in their future doesn’t help our motivation to pursue what God has for us, it hinders it. Comparing ourselves with others, opens the door for envy, discouragement or pride. We consider our own discipleship. It is Him we follow, Him we believe, Him we honor, praise, and glorify, from glory to glory!
John 21:21-23 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.“ Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?“
