“But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.’” – Sam. 16:7

God looks at the heart while man has a tendency to look at the outward appearance. Because the Lord Jesus is in our hearts, we can increasingly see ourselves and others through His eyes. Looking at the intent of the hearts in relationships helps us walk free from offense and be gracious and merciful.

God sees our hearts. He knows when we love and worship Him with our whole heart. When things of this world are pressing on our hearts, we quickly remember by faith that He is on the throne of our hearts. It is there that we can see everything we care about at the feet of our Savior. When God has first place in our hearts, we have peace with everything else. While others may not hear our praises, see our worship, or witness our time spent in the Word of God, God sees and hears our expressions of love.

While some people might only look at our outward appearance, we trust that those who know and are growing in the Lord will see our hearts. As we walk in the Spirit, the Lord reveals the unseen to us. Let’s seek the Lord in the hearts of others and walk by faith, not by sight, from glory to glory!
