Make No Provision for the Flesh

Make No Provision for the Flesh

Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.- Rom. 13:13-14.

A husband comes home late, sparking his wife’s insecurities. She accuses him of infidelity; her jealousy attempting to stir up a heated argument. But instead of anger, the husband yields to the Spirit of God and calmly reaches out to her with love, calms her fears and speaks life over her, in Jesus’ name. His response reveals God’s glory and defeats the enemy’s plan.

When the character of Christ comes forth in our behavior, we glorify Him in our lives. Oppositions and hindrances to our walk of peace are opportunities for us, and others, to witness our transformation into the image of the Lord. In the ways we face confrontations … the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit is clear and its increase undeniable.

We also recognize the areas where we are still in need of transformation. Our focus needs to be on what our Lord has already done, not on what still needs to be accomplished. We can trust Him for what is lacking when we realize the amazing changes He has already brought forth in our character. Let’s extend grace and mercy to ourselves and others, from glory to glory!
