As disciples, we learn from the Lord. Through His Spirit, He teaches us His ways and trains us to walk in His steps. He didn’t leave us alone without help. He is always with us to lead us, help us and empower us. He carried our sorrows on the cross and desires for us not to pick them back up. His yoke is easy, and His burden is light.
When training a new animal to plow, farmers would often yoke it to an older, stronger more experienced animal who would bear the burden and guide the younger animal through his learning. We can come to Jesus with our burdens and He will bear them for us. He will guide us, teach us and give us rest.
If our yoke is hard and our burden is heavy, we are trying to handle a load of problems in our own strength, without His. We might also carry the burdens of others, especially family members. The more we trust the Lord and let Him “lead” us, the more we receive the physical and emotional rest He has for us. He is telling us: “Stop pulling, let me do the pulling. I am the one who is leading. Rest in me.” He carries our burdens, from glory to glory.
Matthew 11:28 -29 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
