Counting God’s Blessings

Counting God’s Blessings

Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken.– John 21:11 nkjv.

Counting God’s blessings is a profound way to deepen our appreciation for Him and all that He does. It is through this practice of counting that we truly process and recognize the extent of His work in our lives, which in turn nurtures our faith for the future.

We can be so busy going from one thing to another that we don’t have time to stop to count God’s blessings. A fruitful practice is to reflect on these blessings at the end of each day, just before we sleep. As we recount His provisions in the spiritual, emotional, and natural realms, we recognize the abundance of what He has done. We can then trust Him in more areas where there may be a need.

Amidst our quest for more, it’s easy to overlook the riches of today. We have much to rejoice over: the evident blessings we possess, the hidden ones we might not notice, and even the blessings in disguise – those things that didn’t happen. If we find ourselves counting more trials than blessings, it might be time to recount, shifting our focus away from tomorrow’s worries and yesterday’s regrets. Let’s embrace the present abundance, celebrating and trusting in the Lord, from glory to glory!
