Our perception of what is said or done may not be accurate when it is filtered through experiences. An assumption based on perception can lead to deception. Humility brings safety. As we submit ourselves to the Lord and surrender our thoughts to Him, we seek and receive the truth by faith. Taking that extra step before jumping to a conclusion helps our responses.
Taking things personally is one deterrent to our hearing. Many times, when people speak, they are pressing what pertains to them; it’s not to describe who the other person is or isn’t; it is more to explain who they are or are not. When in doubt, we should ask, “When you said this, this is what I heard; is that what you meant?”
Taking thoughts captive refers not only to what we think, but also to what others think. As we give all to the Lord, seek His thoughts, and stop fleshy reasoning, He replaces the lies with truths. With love, patience, and grace, He gives us His peace so we can rest in Him. He heals us from any wrong perception, and helps us walk in truth, from glory to glory!
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”
