Increase our faith

And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’- Luke 17:5.

When Jesus instructed his disciples to forgive others “seventy times seven” in a single day, their responded, “Increase our faith.” Instead of praying for more peace, love, or power, they sought an increase in faith. Why? Because they realized that their human tendencies to fail could hinder their trust in God’s capacity to bring about change. They recognized that only as the Lord increased their faith in His ways could they truly keep forgiving.

In our own lives, we often echo the disciples’ prayer when it comes to forgiving others and, perhaps even more challenging, forgiving ourselves. It is our unwavering confidence in the Lord that empowers us to navigate each day in His light. He is the author and the finisher of our faith. To forgive, we must believe God will will finish the work He begun in us. We must persist in this faith and keep growing, unwaveringly.

While it’s true that we often pray for increased faith when seeking healing and miracles, we must also cultivate faith in God to manifest His character. It’s because God forgives us that we can forgive. Authentic faith works by love. We cannot sustain a forgiving spirit without the conviction that transformation is attainable, progressing,  from glory to glory!
