An abusive control can damage relationships, bring distrust and fear. It gives people a false sense of value and helps them deal with their own insecurities and fear of failure. When they dictate harshly to others, they assume they keep the upper hand and stay protected from unpleasant surprises and hardship. They try to get things to go their way, trusting it is the best way and the only way things should be done.

The more we surrender to the Lord, the more we relinquish all control to Him, and the more we are free from any abusive control of others. As we submit to the authority of God, we receive healing from its damaging effects. We learn to forgive and set healthy boundaries. When others do not respect our boundaries, we continue to pray and trust the Lord’s ruling in our hearts.

Only in Christ can we have safety, regain trust, and learn to love healthily. The Spirit of God reveals to heal. He helps all of us recognize and receive transformation as He leads. Under the influence of the Spirit of God, we respect the right authority. We can leave things in God’s hands, trusting Him to do the impossible, from glory to glory!

1 Peter 5:5 “Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for ‘God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.’”
