It is a blessing to communicate with others through e-mail, texting or letters; but it should not take the place of speaking to one another face-to-face when possible. This is especially important when something needs to be clarified and understood properly.
The words we express through our voices unveil the intent of our heart and eliminate misinterpretation. The tone we use when we speak enhances the discernment of the hearer. When we meet face-to-face, what is not said often speaks louder than what is said. We can look into one another’s eyes and have insight into the soul. We can hold each other’s hands and through the touch become aware of deep hidden emotions. What is heard is best heard live. When the face-to-face is not feasible, and we read what someone has written, we should picture them saying it with the understanding of who they are. It’s also wisdom to share with people what we heard them say to bring clarity and follow up with a written memo.
When it’s related to the Lord, the more we know Him, the more we can apply a hearing test to what we hear. We picture the Lord by our side and ponder, “Would Jesus say that? Is it filled with divine wisdom? Is it mixed with something from the world or the flesh?” Our hearing aid, the Holy Spirit, bears witness in our spirit to what is of God. When what we hear is truth, we can speak life from glory to glory!
Romans 10:17 “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
