When we encounter situations where others are in the midst of a quarrel, disagreement or any other type of dispute: we are to be peacemakers. We do not take any side, act angry or pick up someone else’s offense.

Proverbs tells us that the one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own, is like one who takes a dog by the ears. The ears of a dog are short and hard to be held so they are tender. The dog doesn’t like for them to be pulled and tugged by someone he doesn’t know. It’s risky for a man to hold on to the ears of a dog because he runs the risk of being bitten. It is so with someone who interferes in a quarrel, He may be bitten by one of the contending parties. When the Spirit of God leads us to minister to those in the midst of a quarrel, it’s to bring peace as a representative of the Lord. We must beware of others trying to pull us into their disagreements so we will side with them without knowing the whole picture. The only side we ever take is the third side, God’s side.

Blessed are the peacemakers. We pursue peace and look for opportunities for the Holy Spirit to pour out His peace in every situation, from glory to glory!

Proverbs 26:17 “He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own Is like one who takes a dog by the ears.”
