When satan led Eve to disobey God, it wasn’t with a lie that was obvious. He often twists the truth by changing, adding or omitting one or two words. His conniving ways are to lead people onto a wrong path. The wrong path may appear to be appealing to the flesh, the eyes and the prideful ways of men. Knowing the truth truly sets us free and keeps us in God’s perfect will.

The temptations of the enemy can be attractive and seem to lead to wide avenues. The wide way actually narrows our future opportunities. Destruction can come from yielding to these temptations. The narrow way, on the other hand, broadens our possibilities. Eve explained to the serpent that death was the consequence of eating of the tree which is in the midst of the garden. God’s instruction was narrowing her possibilities as it was restricting her options. The serpent broadened her possibilities with the lie that she would be exactly like God, with no restriction and no consequences for going against God’s instructions.

God’s word is a lamp unto our feet; a light unto our path. Reading, studying, memorizing and meditating upon the Word deepens our knowledge of the truth so we will recognize a lie. Fellowshipping with our Lord, the Word of God, and desiring Him above all else keeps us from venturing away into dangerous territories. Following Christ leads us in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake, in love and grace, from glory to glory!

Genesis 3:1-5  Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’ And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’
