We place a guard over our mouth understanding that death and life are in the power of the tongue. We pray the Lord enables us to tame our tongue so our words may edify and minister grace unto the hearers. Words spoken by the flesh, out of anger, hurt those they are spoken to as well as the one spoken through.
When we say things we shouldn’t say, the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, is hindered from flowing freely. We are called to speak forth the truth of God’s word with authority and power. We must beware of the ways the enemy tries to pull us into other people’s conversations. Gossip is very destructive. Sometimes our silence is taken as our agreement with what is said. It is best to remove ourselves from a conversation that is not proper, or express our desire not to be part of what is happening. So much assumption is made by others when things are said that misrepresent the truth. Talebearers spread rumors and lies causing a lot of hurt in the Body of Christ.
We cannot answer for others, but we can condemn every word that comes against us in judgment. We can pray for our own mouth to be controlled by the power of the Holy Spirit, from glory to glory!
Proverbs 18:6-7 “A fool’s lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for blows. A fool’s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.”
