God often leads us to go the extra mile in our steps of obedience. He leads us to do more, to make a greater effort, than what is normally expected. We press through by His grace to do whatever it takes to do things His way. Going the extra mile opens doors that take us to our glorious destiny.
For Rebekah, giving water to the camels after giving it to Eliezer, without being asked, was going the extra mile. She didn’t know the camels were carrying the treasures of Abraham or that she was going to meet her husband through this extra step in her daily routine. It takes a long time to give water to ten camels. They drink a lot. Much is given, much is required. The Holy Spirit leads us to go the extra mile in many areas, to do the extraordinary.
We go the extra mile when we do things that we don’t have to do, but want to do because of our loving heart. It’s a step above and beyond the regular step. It’s what is not necessary, but what is added and is often unexpected. It’s the extra hug, extra smile, extra time at work, extra kind word, extra phone call or extra gesture. Some of these extras are done in secret and are only seen by God. We, just like our Father God, are called to take extraordinary, exceptional and remarkable steps so that He can be glorified, from glory to glory!
Genesis 24:19-20 “And when she had finished giving him a drink, she said, ‘I will draw water for your camels also, until they have finished drinking.’ Then she quickly emptied her pitcher into the trough, ran back to the well to draw water, and drew for all his camels.”
