As we look to the Lord for His instruction in every situation, we give Him the leading and He is able to guide us continually. He never stops guiding our steps, and our stops.
His directions are very specific and never the same. We learn to recognize that His word is alive and active and we take heed to it, moment by moment. If He said to do a certain thing in time past, it doesn’t mean it still is His will for today. We can become stuck if we do not seek His will, continually. One example is Abraham. He was asked to give his son Isaac as a sacrifice. When it came time for him to do so, the angel stopped him. If Abraham was determined to just walk in obedience to the first instructions, he would have missed God’s will for that moment.
The Lord’s guidance is also connected to His timing. Something that was no yesterday, may be yes today. Something that was yes, yesterday, may be no today. It could be regarding various things He led us to and through. The key is to take heed to His voice. If He doesn’t give new direction regarding a specific situation, it means we wait until He does. God wants us to hear Him and make our way clear. As we continually ask Him, surely He will continually guide us, from glory to glory!
Isaiah 58:11 “The LORD will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden, And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.”
Because our war is spiritual, it can only be fought in and by the Spirit of God. It is when we reach new spiritual heights that we are hindered the most. We are above and not beneath. Whatever we encounter, let’s get over it and stand in our place of authority in Christ.
When we are moving to higher places in the realm of the Spirit, the devil fights us from the opposite direction. This is confirmation that we are going in the right direction. That direction is vertical, not horizontal. Everything will line up in front of us when we attain what is from above. In looking at direction, in addition to the vertical focus and growth, the inward transformation should be counted on more than the outward. We do not always see our progress and this is a lie the devil uses often. When he does, it is because the reverse is happening. We might not identify our growth as we should, but we can rest assured our inward man is being renewed by the Holy Spirit daily.
Let’s ask ourselves, “What is the real reason for the battle?” The answer surely is because we are growing in Christ and advancing His Kingdom. We go upward to go onward. The inward growth helps us go forward, from glory to glory!
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
As soon as God instructs us to do something, no matter how insignificant, the enemy will try to bring doubt to cause us to go no further. When we waver, we go back and forth on a decision and cannot move forward. We remain at the same place; we take a few steps forward and then the doubt moves us the same few steps backwards. As we learn to trust in the Lord, we become steadfast and move with surety in our steps.
The first lie satan spoke to Eve made her question herself, “Has God said?” As we place our desire to obey the Lord above all else, we move forward no matter what, enabled by the Holy Spirit. We do not question God. We take all thoughts that are in opposition to God’s will captive immediately. God is able to speak loud enough if He wants us to go another direction. He does not do that through doubt, unbelief or fear. He leads us by His spirit; His peace, joy and righteousness.
When God decides, He also provides. We stand by faith and wait upon His ways. God is so awesome that He carries us through any back and forth moments. He helps us to walk in even more determination, from glory to glory!
James 1:6-8 “But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man supposes that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.”
When dark situations threaten to overtake us, we can rest assured God will light our lamp and enlighten all darkness. Not only the darkness around us, but any darkness within us, will be removed as His light shines in our heart.
There are roads we travel when our destination is unclear; relationships in which our future is shadowed; and sicknesses in our bodies quenching our lamps. Our candles may be difficult to detect, but they are never removed. They may seem dimmed, but light will arise! Traveling on a dark road with no visibility, we will follow the lights of the car in front of us. When that vehicle turns off the road, we have no choice but to trust our own lights. In our walk, we may be following someone else’s light until the situation we are in causes us to discover we carry the light of the Lord ourselves; and we are followed by others. It is the light of God’s countenance that shines upon us and brightens our roads.
The fiery darts of the enemy come as bushels to hide our lamps, but at that very moment God lights us up even brighter. Candles lit by our Lord surely can’t be blown out by satan. A lit candle brings comfort even in the midst of sorrow. As God’s glory is ignited faith arises, hope is restored and deliverance is assured, from glory to glory!
Psalm 18:28 “For You will light my lamp; The LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.”
