The Lord said that out of our hearts will flow rivers of living water; that when we are thirsty we can come to Him and drink, by faith. The thirst He spoke of is the thirst for His life, His presence, and His Spirit to fill us to overflowing. As the Spirit of Christ flows through us, it touches and transforms everything and everyone around us.

The meaning of flow is an uninterrupted stream from the source to the destination with nothing, and no one, stopping it. It’s free to move smoothly and quickly. Unforgiveness, bitterness, envy, anger and other issues of the heart restrain this flow. When the flow is held back by issues from others, or circumstances around us, the Lord leads us to continue to abide in Him and drink and be filled until every obstacle is removed.

We have to be quick in recognizing when the living waters are not flowing as they should. Sometimes it’s because we need to spend time with the Lord. In the natural, if we are dehydrated we might not diagnose the need for water; our head, joints, and muscles might hurt… putting the focus on the symptoms instead of the cause. It is similar in the Spirit. In order to walk in the fullness of the Spirit, we come to the Lord to quench our thirst. We worship, praise, love Him and soak in His presence. As we do, we notice His flow is increased, from glory to glory!

John 7:37-38 “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ”
