Sometimes others forget what has been done for them. They only remember the most recent interaction. If we helped someone before and they ask us to do so again, the answer might be no based on our current situation. Their reaction shouldn’t be as though we never assisted them. They only remember the last no, not the previous yes. Even though others might forget, we should not, especially when it comes to God.
Does it ever appear that God’s response to our requests is negative? Disappointment and anger cloud our perception. We don’t understand why God allows hurtful events. The way God works all things together for the good of those who love Him is not obvious at the time. Remembering how the Lord has brought us out of difficult situations strengthens us to trust Him to do so, again and again.
As we recollect as far back as our salvation, we realize if He gave us eternal life, surely His answer to what we face will exceed our expectations. While we know some of what the Lord has done, much we don’t know until after the fact, if at all. Recalling the goodness and faithfulness of God helps us to praise Him, from glory to glory!
Psalms 61:3-4 “For You have been a shelter for me, a strong tower from the enemy.”
