We are able to handle offenses in our hearts as we mature in Christ and yield to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit. We praise God for dealing with us with so much grace and mercy, and He expects us to extend this same grace and mercy to others. The Lord teaches us is how to handle those who are offended with us, no matter how that offense is expressed.
At times, we may discern others have taken offense but they are not open to confronting the issues for it to be resolved. At other times, we may meet with people to come into one accord and reconciliation is achieved through unexpected ways. The scripture tells us that a brother offended is harder to win than a strong city. It gives a picture of that person being surrounded by bars like those of a castle. Sometimes the more we try to see walls come down; the more they seem to go higher. Each individual is unique and all differences cannot be handled the same way.
Every person needs to be cared for in a special, specific manner. We first trust the Lord with His ways and His timing in bringing forth understanding and restoring peace. Because we love others with the love of God, we hurt when they hurt. We would like to remove the bars for them, but we feel helpless. We can trust the Lord to heal all of us, from glory to glory!
Proverbs 18:19 “A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle.”
