We put ourselves in a difficult place when we must answer a request quickly without time to seek the Lord for His will on the matter. We need to ask the Lord for His wisdom, even if the time we have is brief. God will honor our wish to know His desire for our lives.
If a decision made in haste turns out to be the wrong decision, we will reap the consequences and then cry out to God for His help to make it right. When we say yes too quickly to someone’s appeal because we want to please them without knowing if it pleases the Lord, it can also have unforeseen consequences. If, during a business transaction, we are told we have to make a decision right then and there or we will lose a deal–it must not be God’s best. When the pressure to act is so strong we cannot involve our Lord, then we should not be involved. People will respect our desire to be led by God, whether they understand it or not.
At times, the Spirit of the Lord comes upon us suddenly and has us do or say things we don’t have time to think about. That is His doing. He purposely doesn’t want our reasoning to hinder His purpose. This is very different from the decisions we make intentionally. Always allow the peace of God to lead us as we go slowly, but surely, from glory to glory!
Isaiah 28:16 “Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: ‘Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.’ ”
