As a disciple, we lay aside every hindering weight and sin which so easily ensnares us. We are running a glorious race and daily watch for what needs to be put off by the power and authority of Christ.
It is to be noted that sin easily ensnares us. Some actions and habits become addictive quickly. It requires no effort on our part, and happens without our awareness. Their presence is noticed when they become so strong they require more than anticipated to overcome them. The remedy is simple faith. It’s taking that first step not to do what we used to do, and allowing the Holy Spirit to empower us to take them into subjection. As easily as it started it can stop when we let the Lord help us. The lie of our adversary is that it’s not easy and very difficult, but we can do all things through Christ.
In a race, the pressing through point is at the most difficult time when going forth appears impossible. At that moment, even though the muscles are burning with pain, we push through and suddenly find we can do it. Pursuing the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus is simply done step-by-step, from glory to glory!
1 Corinthians 9:26-27 “Therefore I run thus: not with uncertainty. Thus I fight: not as one who beats the air. But I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.”
