The opposition of the enemy comes in many ways. He either tries to make us ineffective where we are, or completely move us from our place of destiny. To do so, he moves from bringing distraction–to bringing depression. With depression, he brings discouragement. The fear of not making it can cause us to move away, to flee. When we give in to these lies of defeat, we give up.

Nehemiah and Elijah both had a report that someone was coming to kill them. Jezebel was indeed after Elijah, but the word that Nehemiah received was a lie. In both situations, the fear of dying or not making it was used by the enemy to make them flee. Elijah fled with much depression and fear, but God rescued him. Nehemiah refused to flee, and didn’t believe the false prophetic word because it didn’t line up with God’s Word.

Elijah looked at his own life and feared to lose it, so he fled the scene. The enemy attempts to get us to focus on ourselves and save ourselves. We cannot. We have already died in Christ, so we have no fear. We confront every conflict by God’s grace. We do not flee from fear; we stand by faith. Only God has the authority to tell us to move to another place. When He does, it’s never out of despair, but out of peace. He truly leads us from glory to glory!

Nehemiah 6:11 “And I said, ‘Should such a man as I flee? And who is there such as I who would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in!’ ”
