The sure foundation we have in Christ is paved with faith, hope and love. Paul tells us that the greatest of these is love. Love being the greatest doesn’t diminish the others, but indicates that it is the force that makes the other two effective.

Faith looks in the past and receives what the love of God accomplished for us through the cross. We are forgiven and free from our past. Hope looks to our future with joy, great anticipation and confidence in God. Love brings freedom in our today. If we are hurting because of things in our past, or worried about things of tomorrow, we are not able to love in the present. Today we believe that what God did yesterday secured our tomorrow. Now faith is because of love. Faith and hope abide in us the moment we rest in God’s love.

We cannot change what happened in our yesterdays, but we can stop it from coming against our present circumstances by applying the love of God that brings hope out of any situation. Nothing can separate us from the love of God we have in Christ Jesus, not even ourselves or things of our past. Today and everyday let us receive the greatest gift anew, and with it receive great faith and great hope, from glory to glory!

1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”
